Folkestone, Hythe and Rural PCN Covid vaccination campaign

Oaklands Health Centre, part of the Folkestone, Hythe and Rural PCN, were one of the first practices to start delivering the covid vaccination.  Oaklands has been integral in supporting the administering of 83,000 to the local community.

  1. Eligible groups and progress so far

Oaklands are following guidance from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation by inviting the following groups for the booster vaccination –

  • Those living in residential care homes for older adults
  • All adults aged 50 years or over
  • Frontline health and social care workers
  • All those aged 16 to 49 years with underlying health conditions that put them at higher risk of severe COVID-19, and adult carers
  • Adult household contacts of immunosuppressed individuals

There are 24,022 patients within this group and to date 9,992 have received their booster (42%)

  1. Groups that are not eligible to be vaccinated at Oaklands

There is a very small number of Clinically Extremely Vulnerable 12 to 15 year olds who have been vaccinated at Oaklands however the vast majority of children within this age group will need to follow the instructions provided by their secondary school.

Some schools have scheduled vaccinations to take place at school however if this is not the case then parents or guardians have been asked to make appointments at a Mass Vaccination Centre  using the National Booking System –

  1. How patients are being invited to receive a booster vaccination at Oaklands Health Centre

Oaklands continue to send invites to patients via a text message that allows booking online. Those patients without a mobile number on their clinical record will be phoned directly to arrange their appointment.

  1. Booking at an alternative venue

Patients waiting for their booster are also able to book an appointment at a Mass Vaccination Centre (MVC).   The most local MVC is ‘Folca’ which is situated in the old Debenhams in the centre of Folkestone.

To access an appointment patients are required to book online at -

Please be aware that you can now access the National Booking System 30 days prior to your booster being due.  You will only be shown appointments that are available 6 months after the date of your 2nd vaccination.

Please be aware that new appointments are added all the time and as a patient gets closer to their 6 month date a greater choice of venue will become available.
